Sportpesa CEO Ronald Karauri went to Mangu High School to collect his KCSE certificate; over 20 years after he sat for KCSE. After high school, he went to the University of Nairobi where he was studying Mechanical Engineering, but dropped out mid-way. He was in his third year when he dropped out to take up an offer as a graduate pilot trainee at Kenya Airways (KQ). He said he has been using results slip as a confirmation that he sat the national exam. He joined the national carrier in January 2003 where he worked as an airline pilot until December the same year. Later in the year, he was promoted to the position of a captain, a position he diligently served until 2014 when he left to start SportPesa alongside other partners.
