Money Don't Buy Happiness.

Steve Jobs’ Last Words I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes, my life is an epitome of success. However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to. At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death. In the darkness, I look at the green lights from the life supporting machines and hear the humming mechanical sounds, I can feel the breath of god of death drawing closer… Now I know, when we have accumulated sufficient wealth to last our lifetime, we should pursue other matters that are unrelated to wealth… Should be something that is more important: Perhaps relationships, perhaps art, perhaps a dream from younger days Non-stop pursuing of wealth will only turn a person into a twisted being, just like me. Don't limit yourself to the classroom. Do something practical.

Prof. Micheni from Maasai Mara University has this to say to students. "Academic excellence is overrated! I said. Being top of your class does not necessarily guarantee that you will be at the top of life. You could graduate as the best student in Finance but it doesn't mean you will make more money than everybody else. The best graduating law student does not necessarily become the best lawyer. The fact is, life requires more than the ability to understand a concept, memorise it and and reproduce it in an exam.School rewards people for their memory. Life rewards people for their imagination, school rewards caution, life rewards daring. School hails those who live by the rules.Life exalts those who break the rules and set new ones. So do I mean people shouldn't study hard in school? Oh, no, you should: But don't sacrifice every other thing on the alter of First class. Don't limit yourself to the classroom. Do something practical. Take a leadership position. Start ...

Effects of negative thinking

dentifying negative thinking Not sure if your self-talk is positive or negative? Here are some common forms of negative self-talk: Filtering.  You magnify the negative aspects of a situation and filter out all of the positive ones. For example, you had a great day at work. You completed your tasks ahead of time and were complimented for doing a speedy and thorough job. That evening, you focus only on your plan to do even more tasks and forget about the compliments you received. Personalizing.  When something bad occurs, you automatically blame yourself. For example, you hear that an evening out with friends is canceled, and you assume that the change in plans is because no one wanted to be around you. Catastrophizing.  You automatically anticipate the worst. The drive-through coffee shop gets your order wrong and you automatically think that the rest of your day will be a disaster. Polarizing.  You see things only as either good or bad. There is no middle ground. Y...

Be patient,Your time is coming.

Nobody sees the stars during the day. But in the night, they are visible. God knows how to hide you till its your time to shine. Your invisibility doesn't mean you are not existing. It only means its not your time yet. You are next in line for a major miracle. Wait patiently God's timing is always perfect. There's a day...called "ONE DAY" it shall be your turn. Don't complain, and don't lose hope.

Never assume anything.

Never assume anything – introduction Are you sure that the way you perceive things is the way they really are? Are you willing to challenge the norm in order to succeed? Making assumptions is something we all do in many areas of our lives. An assumption is “something taken for granted or accepted as true without proof.” In other words, it is belief without proof. One example that immediately comes to mind is the assumption that you are what you do. Statements such as “I am a doctor” or “I am a lawyer” are examples. Your are not a doctor or a lawyer, you just happen to practise law or medicine. Never assume anything – common assumptions As illustrated, society’s language reinforces this false assumption. The truth is that we are more than what we do. In one lifetime one can be a lawyer, a doctor, an engineer and an entrepreneur all at once. I happen to know a few people who have such combinations of quali...

Never Quit.

Never Quit - introduction Does it seem like despite your best efforts things never work out as you planned? Are you in despair because just when it seems you are making progress something goes wrong? At such times it is easy to feel defeated and to give up, but what can you do to stay on top of things? It is a fact of life that despite all your best efforts at planning, strategizing and being careful not to make mistakes some things will go wrong sometimes. One of my favorite poems, “Don’t Quit,” makes the statement more eloquently by saying: When things go wrong, as they sometimes will When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill… …Rest if you must, but don’t you quit. I have seen this poem in countless places, mostly in the rooms of many a college or university student. It is a source of strength and hope for many during difficult and stressful times. The reason is that it states a simple truth so well that for many it is like shining ...

Your Past vs Your Future

Your past and future – introduction Is there more at stake to the choices you make than just your future? Could you be living a life that is not of your own making? These were the questions that raced through my mind one very ordinary looking day. It turned out to be a mind-opening day. I was having breakfast in a restaurant on a recent working trip. The waiter greeted me warmly as I went to serve myself. He then retreated to a corner of the room, taking on the common stance that waiters assume with their hands clasped in front, a towel dangling between them. As I sat down to eat he came and asked whether I needed some coffee or tea. Not being particularly fond of hot drinks I declined and said the juice would suffice. He noticed that my glass was small and offered to bring a larger glass of juice. So the morning went on. He would serve me, then go back to the corner and watch. It was as though at every moment he was observing me and asking himself what else he could...

Success through time management.

Time management skill - introduction What have you done today to move you closer to your dreams? Are you expecting to wake up one morning and suddenly do everything to achieve your dream in just that one day? Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do.” Success is a daily habit. It’s the little things you do everyday that will get you to your destination.  Time management skill - cultivate a habit of reading A friend and motivational speaker, Felix Banda, told me last week how he remembers me reading a book called “how to become a millionaire” when I was at the University of Zambia in my first or second year of studies. That was over 10 years ago. He pointed out that it may seem to some, that I suddenly got up one day and decided to start writing these articles, but he realized that it started all the way back there. His point was that it has been a process and not a sudden occurrence. I had actually forgotten about having read that ...

Fruits of Skills and Creativity.

Creative skills. Relevant skills.Relevant courses. Marketable courses.Skills which solve the challenges we are faced with in infrastructure, technology, education, and the like. And this mentality of learning to be employed to me may not go well with the current trend where the world needs creative skills .people should be encouraged to pursue market driven courses where if they didn't get formal employment, they can still earn a living in informal sector. People who create their own business empires,Bosses of their own, feeding their families comfortable, than sitting down with a degree, diploma or masters waiting serkal for employment, to me it should be the other way round, you do something creatively and skillfully until whoever who needs your services comes for you. That's what I think. I thumb up http//www.bunifu.co. ke for their great contribution to technology in Baringo for being the first guys to develop computer antivirus(Bunifu sniper) in Africa. Its the best. It scr...
